Gordy Pratt's "SETH BULLOCK: The Spirit of the West"

As the ghost of Seth Bullock in SETH BULLOCK: The Spirit of the West, Gordy uses "first-hand" stories and original songs and to weave a colorful tale of the Wild West. His mix of humor, history and music richly bring to life such famous figures as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Bullock's good friend Theodore Roosevelt.

Bullock is familiar to many people from the story about his ghost on ABC's Unsolved Mysteries or as a primary character in HBO's Deadwood. The most famous sheriff of Deadwood, Dakota Territory, Bullock was instrumental in shaping the future of the region. As a lawman, a businessman and conservationist, Bullock has fascinated history buffs and others for more than a century. Even Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, held Bullock in high esteem, saying, "Seth Bullock is a true westerner, the finest type of frontiersman."

“I just get a little emotional when you talk about Seth Bullock and Teddy Roosevelt—you do that so well.”Maxine Johnson, Board President, W.H. Over Museum

Gordy wrote SETH BULLOCK: The Spirit of the West in 1994 and has performed the 35-minute show hundreds of times over 18 years. As a guest on ABC's Good Morning America, he sang his original song "Days of '76" and discussed Bullock's role in Deadwood's history. During the summer Gordy does several shows daily at the Adams Museum in Deadwood, and has performed "SETH" at the Association of State Park Directors Conference, Escapade 2011 Convention (a national RV'ers organization), the W.H. Over Museum (University of South Dakota) and for many other organizations. SETH BULLOCK: The Spirit of the West was commissioned by Mary Schmit, who owned and renovated the Bullock Hotel in Deadwood, S.D., from 1989 to 1996.

Gordy's Experience

Gordy has been writing songs and creating theatrical pieces since the age of 15. He has toured nationally and internationally with major theatrical productions as a stage manager.

As the owner of Deadwood Production Company and One Guy LLC, Gordy wrote 12 historical shows, including CALAMITY JANE: The Wild Woman of the West, WILD BILL HICKOK: Gunfighter and Lawman, and SETH BULLOCK: The Spirit of the West, and his musical comedy mellerdrammer, The Desperate Damsels of Deadwood, which were performed more than 3,000 times.

Gordy has been writing and performing his unique brand of stand-up musical comedy since 1990 and now does more than 100 corporate comedy shows a year across the country. He has played concert halls and other venues from Vancouver to San Francisco to New York. Equally comfortable playing at a small-town stock show as an upscale corporate banquet or in a 2,000-seat concert hall, Gordy's engaging performance style delights audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Called the "Victor Borge of the guitar" and the "Garrison Keillor of the West," Gordy has been a theatre and music professional for over 30 years. He grew up in summer stock theater and went on to study classical guitar and ancient music at Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY; the Royal College of Music, London; and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
